So in order to stay under $10 a day I went along with some colleagues to Five Guys restaurant today. The joy of Five Guys is that they give you such an obnoxiously large amount of fries that you can share with three friends (girlfriends specifically, because your guy friends will want their own :-) ).

In any case, I got the little bacon cheeseburger loaded with almost every condiment they offer…so good, and under $10.00. Add jalapenos for a bit of heat.

It is actually my fault. I said after my car issues I wouldn’t eat out for the rest of the month…so what have I done all weekend and yesterday and today…eat out. I have no self-control. Apparently, the only way I’ll stop eating out is if I have zero dollars in my bank account. So I’m back on a $10 a day budget, until some unforeseen date.

If you’re a betting person, I’d bet against me.

I get paid by my second job on the 27th…that day cannot come fast enough. I’m going to have to be creative about meal time.

Guess what! I got paid on Friday by my secondary source of income, only problem is I went to NYC and now that money is gone…oh well. I went to a couple of okay restaurants, but one really fantastic new eatery on the Upper West Side called “Hummus Kitchen“. Okay, it’s not technically new…it’s more of a small chain…but it was definitely super tasty. And believe me, “hummus” is not something I normally gravitate towards.

For $14.95 during brunch hour on Saturday, we got the following ridiculous assortment of tastes + a breakfast entree…crazy. Most important, their $3.95 sangria made me very happy. Three full glasses later, I was feeling quite lovely, but a little to sleepy for the movie we were about to see. Anyway, back to the food, here is a rundown of the small plates:

Gravad Lax Salmon
Warm grilled eggplant
Homemade Confit with pears and onions
Fried Cauliflower
Grape leaves stuffed with Basmati Rice
Masabaha (slow cooked chickpeas)

I went into some very cool shops today, including the first ever Two’s Company Concept Store and the relatively new, Jonathan Adler store in Greenwich. Two’s Company is like a little treasure trove of little finds at reasonable prices. Jonathan Adler’s store is everything you expect from his line: fun, quirky, young, imaginative, vibrant. Definitely two fantastic additions to our designer landscape.

Had lunch with a friend…I know my bank account is dwindling, but it’s lunch. You can have an expensive lunch even at a restaurant that normally adds up. Suggested a place near me that I like to go for martinis and dinner (does anybody else wish that drinking at lunch was socially acceptable and for that matter, encouraged by employers?), we ordered Sprite. Very good start.

But of course, they had one of my favorite “fat kid” specials on the menu. A super tasty lobster and cauliflower carbonara. I know it sounds a little odd, but it is delicious. Huge pieces of perfectly cooked lobster in a creamy sauce with pasta – YES PLEASE! Needless to say, instead of a $14 meal, it was dinner priced. Oh well, it made me happy and I paid cash! Meant to take a picture but was way to caught up in talking to my friend and eating. Here’s a picture from another website to give you the idea…just add more cream and substitute cauliflower for the peas. Same idea.

Also had to buy gas. The pits. Down another $65 or so…(for the record, lunch was worth it).

So yesterday I was out scouting for the magazine and was in couple of shops that had really great pieces for me (versus the magazine).

See, this is the problem with my job. I have to go into stores. And those stores are full of temptation. And let’s be honest, spending a boatload of cash on getting your car fixed sucks cause you have nothing to show for it! If you’re going to cry broke for a month, wouldn’t you rather say that you have no money because of the beautiful “x” that you’re wearing? Maybe not, but this was my philosophy and I don’t believe in depriving myself. Sooo, I purchased…

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted because I’ve been so busy! I had to manage the editorial for our Luxury Gift Portfolio, work on several food related articles, and spend a little time during the holiday season working at C&B…why not right, because clearly I’m not busy. In any case, after much contemplation, I’ve realized that this blog needs a bit of reality check. After all, the name of this blog is literal…it is the pursuit of style…what maybe less obvious is this this pursuit has to happen on like, five cents…slight exaggeration, but you get my drift.

So everyday I have to make choices about my purchases and sometimes those choices are made for me. Like last week I had car issues that cost upwards of $500 – why does every car issue START at $500???? Needless to say, friends of mine that understand this financial woe completely understood my dilemma, coming up with multiple ways I could have spent that money on something A LOT more fabulous than having the pipes that move power steering fluid through my car repaired.

Though, if I had decided not to fix the power steering my biceps would have been HUGE because that is a workout.

I’m still attending fashion shows, foodie events, magazine parties, but this blog is a pure admittance: I’m poor, I have to own that! But I’m trying to live my life despite it and I do it everyday with a smile. This is my pursuit! Enjoy :-) .

Oh, and right now, I have $661.18 in my “interest bearing” checking account…I usually get an additional penny or two by the end of the month. Needless to say, I’m trying very hard to ignore the emails from favorite websites like ideeli.com and gilt.com.

Problem is, I shop for a living…oy…here we go.

Emerging new label EMERSON by designer Jackie Fraser-Swan debuted her Spring 2012 collection today.

For Spring 2012, she was inspired by “lightness and darkness.” Staying true to her refined-yet-edgy aesthetic, contrasting elements are reflected throughout the collection. Sparks of color such as royal blue and bright purple play against a neutral palette of black, white, gray and silver. Dark silks and laces can be seen alongside light, airy, printed linens. The EMERSON collection embodies the powerful and free-spirited modern woman. Luxuriously classic and sophisticated, EMERSON encourages each woman to shamelessly indulge in her eccentric side.

This collection was AMAZING! Literally it was one ethereal dress after another, all floating down the runway. Admittedly, there were moments when I was thinking, bridal party, but as separate pieces (versus the whole collection) it is uber-feminine, cocktail and eveningwear attire. The color palette was soft, with watercolored flowers adorning some dresses and others looking like they had been painted onto. I was also crazy over the vintage inspired lace dresses..they were gorgeous, timeless, and so easy.

I’ve got my favorites here. Watch the video and let me know what you love!
